Due to decreased energy output and certain metabolic changes, seniors need less food than older adults. However, an outright loss of appetite is NOT normal and it could be a sign of a serious health issue.
Moreover, factors such as dental problems or a decreased sense of taste can lead seniors to eat less and make it appear as though they lost their appetite when it actually has not. Any sudden weight loss or change in eating habits should be seen as a red flag and warrants a visit to their physician.
